The Archive establishes a structured record of oeuvre, research, and intellectual legacy of Keariene Muizz, whose sustained investigation of Paris brings architecture, psychoanalysis, spatial memory, and material culture into a distinctive body of oil paintings.
Conceived as more than a repository of individual works, The Archive connects the paintings to the ideas, source materials, historical conditions, and material processes through which they emerge. Its mandate encompasses the documentation of the oeuvre, the preservation of relevant research and records, and the development of a coherent historical account of the work and its relationship to Paris.
The Archive provides a framework through which this body of work can be studied, contextualized, collected, exhibited, and stewarded over time. It brings artistic research into conversation with private collecting and institutional scholarship, recognizing that the long term significance of a work rests not only in the object itself, but also in the history, ideas, and evidence that surrounds it.
Access to archival materials and selected unlisted works is coordinated through a considered inquiry process for collectors, curators, researchers, and cultural institutions. Each engagement begins with the integrity of the work and its documentation, with the aim of preserving its context while extending the possibilities for its study, presentation, and future stewardship.
The intellectual foundations of The Archives & Holdings emerged through an extended period of psychoanalytic and historical research at the Bibliothèque nationale de France and La Sorbonne. This research transformed the relationship to Paris from one of aesthetic observation into a sustained inquiry into human absence, memory, and the histories embedded within physical space.
Paris became more than the subject of representation. Its architecture, material surfaces, and accumulated histories offered a means of examining the relationship between the visible city and its less tangible psychological dimensions.
The resulting body of work extend beyond the picturesque image of Paris. It constitutes an evolving artistic and historical record of the city, investigating how places retain traces of experience, how memory shapes our understanding of the built environment, and how painting can make those relationships perceptible.
The Archives & Holdings documents a material and intellectual methodology in which painting operates as a means of inquiry, transformation, and engagement with the lived environment. Material processes are not incidental to the work; they are integral to how its psychological, architectural, and historical questions take form.
Material Anchoring
Surface, density, texture, and material resistance establish a physical relationship between the work and the world it examines. Across distinct bodies of oil painting, the material construction of each work serves a specific investigative purpose, giving tangible form to questions of memory, psychological experience, and the relationship between the individual and the built environment.
Situated Inquiry
The research proceeds through direct engagement rather than detached observation. The artist enters the conditions under investigation, allowing sustained exposure, psychological investment, and lived experience to inform the development of the work. Through this process, the familiar environment becomes a field of inquiry in which concealed structures, associations, and histories can emerge.
Painting as a Technology of Inquiry
Painting functions as both a material practice and a means of producing knowledge. Through the transformation of surfaces, urban materials, and architectural references, the work establishes an independent framework for examining how environments shape experience and how experience, in turn, shapes our understanding of place.
Together, these methodologies form a coherent investigative practice, one whose material outcomes and intellectual foundations are documented within The Archives & Holdings for continued study, interpretation, and stewardship.
